22 Students Awarded $100,000 In Scholarships
A total of 22 students across the British Virgin Islands have been selected to receive scholarships valued at a combined $100,000 through the Judith E. Vanterpool Scholarship Fund. The initiative, spearheaded by the MHV BVI Group, doubled its initial financial commitment to provide greater educational support. Award letters are scheduled to be distributed in the coming days, with funding disbursed over the next two years.
Twenty-two students from across the Virgin Islands have been selected to receive educational scholarships valued at a combined $100,000 through the newly established Judith E. The announcement was made this week by the MHV BVI Group, following an initial commitment made in April by Chairman Mark Vanterpool.
The company had originally pledged $50,000 toward supporting local students, but leadership subsequently decided to double the investment to $100,000 to accommodate a larger number of applicants. According to the group, official award letters will be issued in the coming days. The allocated funds will be disbursed to the 22 selected recipients over the next two years to assist with tuition and related academic expenses as they pursue their studies.
The scholarship programme is named in honour of Judith Vanterpool, co-founder of the MHV BVI Group and wife of Mark Vanterpool. Both have professional backgrounds in teaching, with Judith having contributed more than five decades to the education sector in the Virgin Islands. Judith Vanterpool expressed that the initiative goes beyond easing financial burdens, serving as an encouragement for youth to realize their potential.
She emphasized that the investment is a clear sign of faith in what the recipients can achieve, adding that the group hopes to see the scholars return home upon completing their studies to help build a stronger Virgin Islands. The scholarship fund builds on the long-standing community outreach of the MHV BVI Group.
Over the past 20 years, the corporate group has actively supported youth empowerment across the territory by funding education, providing summer employment opportunities, and hosting mentorship programmes.
