4th Clasico Torneo Softball Success
The 4th Clasico Torneo Softball Tournament, hosted by The Edge and J.H. Promotion from May 13 to 17, 2026, drew teams from across the Caribbean and the United States and concluded as a major success. The 4th Clasico Torneo Softball Tournament, hosted by The Edge and J.H. Promotion, took place from Wednesday, May 13 to Sunday, May 17, 2026, and organisers have hailed the event a major success. The competition attracted teams from across the Caribbean and the United States, underscoring the tournament s growing popularity and international profile in the Virgin Islands.
Participating teams represented Puerto Rico (male and female), Venezuela (male), the Dominican Republic (male and female), New York (female), Anguilla (male), Jamaica (female), the US Virgin Islands (one male and two female teams), and the Virgin Islands (male and female). The broad field provided competitive play and strong spectator interest throughout the five days of games.
On the final day local fans saw Puerto Rico s PRFC capture the female championship over Team St Croix Feds, while City Pan VNC of Venezuela claimed the male title over Team BVI Allstars. Each champion received a trophy and a US$5,000 cash prize, highlighting the tournament s increased stakes and professionalism.
The event also featured notable guests who elevated the tournament s profile. Former Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter Luis A. Polonia Almonte, a Dominican Republic native, attended and met players and fans. Jeison Jose Bryan, Ministerial Assistant for Sports, Youth and Culture from Anguilla, travelled with his team and used the visit to discuss stronger sporting and cultural ties with BVI officials.
Organisers publicly thanked a long list of sponsors whose contributions made the week possible, including the Government of the Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands Tourist Board, Caribbean Cellars, Carib, Brugal, Stoli, Flow BVI, Caribbean Broadcasting Network, Nagico Insurance, First Caribbean International Bank (CIBC), Skelton Group, Fort Garden Centre, Pool Works, One Mart Group, Nanny Cay Hotel, H.N.F.
Clothing Line, Walkers BVI, Aaron Rentals Ltd, New View Inn, Pirates of the Caribbean Island Tours, and Dougies Taxi Service. Special recognition went to the Premier s Office, the Immigration Department, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the BVI Recreation Trust and the Virgin Islands Softball-Baseball Association for logistical and security support.
Wheatley, Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer and Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith welcomed visiting teams during the tournament. Organisers emphasised the broader goal of re-establishing national male and female softball teams for the Virgin Islands.
Both local squads produced commendable performances, with the male team earning praise for a competitive championship matchup against Venezuela. Communications are already under way with returning teams and interest is building for the fifth edition. The Clasico Torneo continues to show promise as a sports tourism initiative for the territory, bringing visitors, media attention and economic benefit to hotels, tours and local businesses.
