Infrastructure across the British Virgin Islands is receiving a significant boost as funding from a 100 million dollar loan is deployed to rehabilitate and modernize the Territory's road network. Natalio Wheatley confirmed during a broadcast of the Virgin Islands Voice that road improvement initiatives will extend across Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke.

The current initiative reflects a strategic shift from temporary resurfacing to long-term civil engineering solutions. Minister of Communications and Works Kye Rymer explained that the government adjusted its scope from an initial 38 miles of standard resurfacing to a comprehensive framework covering nine miles of high-priority roads across the Territory.

This method incorporates essential remedial work, including improved drainage systems, revetments, retaining walls, subbase stabilization, and road widening. Crucially, the road rehabilitation programme is being coordinated with subsurface utility modernizations to ensure resilience.

Minister Rymer highlighted that roadworks are underway on Anegada, Cabinet has approved a contract for Lee Road on Virgin Gorda, designs are completed for Jost Van Dyke, and multiple projects are progressing across Tortola. Upgrades to the underlying water infrastructure are being carried out concurrently to prevent future road cuts and ensure reliable public utilities.

Premier Wheatley commended the Ministry of Communications and Works for its strategic focus on vital transport corridors, pointing to noticeable improvements on the eastern end of Tortola that now provide a smooth connection from Beef Island directly to Road Town. Government officials emphasized that expanding the programme across all islands guarantees equitable development, enhanced public safety, and improved connectivity for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

The Ministry of Communications and Works announced that roadworks will continue to be executed in phased stages. Official notices regarding project timelines, expected traffic disruptions, and temporary diversions will be published regularly through government communication channels.

Residents and motorists are advised to exercise caution near active work zones and follow all posted traffic management instructions as infrastructure improvements progress.
