Police are actively investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the RiteWay establishment in Road Reef on Sunday evening, leaving the local business community on alert. According to reports, two masked men wearing hoodies arrived at the premises on motor scooters shortly before 8:00 PM and swiftly entered the supermarket.
At least one of the assailants was armed with a firearm during the confrontation. The suspects reportedly demanded money and managed to escape on their motor scooters with an undisclosed amount of cash before law enforcement could arrive. While police confirmed that a robbery took place in the Road Reef area on Sunday, official statements initially stopped short of publicly identifying the specific commercial establishment targeted.
Emergency responders and officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force were dispatched to the scene following the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among employees or patrons who were inside the store during the ordeal. The Road Reef robbery follows a strikingly similar incident that took place at the Mr Nice Guy Superstore in Manual Reef.
In that case, assailants also utilized motor scooters as their primary mode of transportation and escape. The consecutive incidents have raised concerns among residents and commercial operators regarding the pattern of armed perpetrators using high-mobility two-wheel vehicles to conduct quick getaways across Tortola.
Business owners across the Virgin Islands are being reminded to remain vigilant, especially during evening hours and closing times. Law enforcement officials continue to appeal to members of the public for any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible.
