Arrest Made in St. Croix Station Shooting
A 48-year-old man was arrested after a fatal shooting at the Sion Farm Service Station on June 26, and police say a separate fatal shooting at Croixville Apartments on July 2 left a 34-year-old man dead. Authorities continue to investigate both incidents and are urging anyone with information to contact the Virgin Islands Police Department. The June 26 suspect was charged with first-degree murder and other counts and remains in custody; the July 2 victim was identified as Anthony Hazelwood and brings the territory's homicide total for 2026 to 25, officials said.
Croix — A 48-year-old man was arrested following a fatal shooting at the Sion Farm Service Station on the evening of Friday, June 26, authorities said. According to Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Director of Communications Glen Dratte and reported by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), the St.
Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received a ShotSpotter notification at approximately 7:07 p.m., followed by several 911 calls reporting shots fired and a gunshot wound victim at the service station. Responding officers found an adult male suffering multiple gunshot wounds; emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police identified the suspect at the scene as 48-year-old Brian Schooler, who is a licensed firearm owner. Schooler was taken to the Criminal Investigation Bureau office where he was processed and formally arrested. He now faces charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and discharging or aiming a firearm, the VIPD statement said.
Court records show bail was set at $1 million. Schooler was unable to post bail and was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing in Superior Court that had been scheduled for Monday, June 29, according to the initial police release.
Investigators continued to process the Sion Farm scene and gather evidence. The VIPD statement provided by Dratte did not identify the victim in that case. Croix police also responded to a separate shooting on Thursday, July 2, when multiple 911 calls at approximately 2:15 p.m. reported a male gunshot victim at Croixville Apartments, Dratte told reporters. All emergency personnel were dispatched and Emergency Medical Technicians confirmed the male victim was deceased at the scene.
The VIPD has identified the July 2 victim as 34-year-old Anthony Hazelwood. The police said the investigation into that incident is active; no arrests were reported in the Croixville case in the VIPD notice published by VINO. Authorities noted the July 2 death raises the territory’s homicide count for 2026 to 25 — 13 on St.
