Brewers Bay Welcomes Back George W. Christopher

Residents of Brewers Bay are set to witness the reopening of the George W. Christopher Community Centre tomorrow, a beacon of community spirit and resilience, following an eight-year hiatus due to extensive damage from the 2017 hurricanes. This announcement was made by the Minister for Health and Social Services, Hon Vincent O.
Wheatley (R9), in response to inquiries from District 2 Representative, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull, during the Eighth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth House of Assembly on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The reopening of this centre is a momentous event, not just for Brewers Bay but for the entire Territory, as it becomes the seventh community centre to be restored since the devastating 2017 hurricanes.
The centre is set to offer a safe and welcoming space for community gatherings, activities, and a testament to the resilience and unity of the community. Minister Wheatley highlighted the proactive approach taken by his ministry in collaboration with the Department of Social Development, ensuring that the centre will not only be handed over but will also be immediately furnished and ready for use.
This decision to furnish the centre right away marks a departure from previous practices, where centres were often handed over without the necessary furnishings, leading to delays in their utilization. The Ministry's foresight in procuring furniture in 2023 and 2024 has ensured that the community can benefit from the facility without undue delay.
The centre is named in honor of the late Mr. Christopher, a figure of significant importance to Brewers Bay, celebrating his contributions and legacy within the community. The official handover and opening ceremony are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM, with invitations already sent out to mark this historic occasion.
