BVI Advances Financial Ties With India

A delegation from the British Virgin Islands’ Hong Kong Representative Office completed a series of meetings in Mumbai and New Delhi as part of ongoing efforts to deepen financial services and regulatory cooperation with India. The engagements — which included talks with the Reserve Bank of India, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, and participation in the Futures Industry Association forum — build on 2025 outreach and help prepare for the inaugural BVI‑India Financial Services Trade Mission and Roadshow scheduled for 24–31 August 2026 (Government of the Virgin Islands). The BVI government says these meetings aim to broaden market access, promote regulatory dialogue and create business opportunities for Trust companies, fund managers and corporate service providers in the Territory.

A delegation from the British Virgin Islands’ Hong Kong Representative Office has completed a series of engagements in the Republic of India as part of a continued effort to deepen financial services and regulatory dialogue between the two jurisdictions (Government of the Virgin Islands).

The mission was led by Associate Director Siobhan M. Ricardo Wheatley and Political and Economic Officers Ronn A. Meetings were held in Mumbai and New Delhi and concluded with a courtesy call in Hong Kong with India’s newly appointed Consul General to Hong Kong SAR, Mr. In Mumbai, Associate Director Flax and Dr.

Rawat, Director of the Reserve Bank of India’s International Department, to discuss regulatory engagement and potential market linkages. The BVI team also participated in the Futures Industry Association (FIA) Forum hosted at the National Stock Exchange of India, using the forum to hear industry perspectives on market developments and opportunities for cooperation between Indian market participants and BVI service providers (Government of the Virgin Islands).

In New Delhi the delegation held talks with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs within the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs. Those discussions focused on areas of bilateral cooperation of mutual interest, including matters relevant to cross‑border services and compliance standards affecting financial services providers in the Territory (Government of the Virgin Islands).

The Government notes these 2026 engagements build on sustained outreach undertaken in 2025 that strengthened institutional and industry linkages across key financial centres. The work is being carried forward in preparation for the inaugural BVI‑India Financial Services Trade Mission and Roadshow, set for 24–31 August 2026 and covering Mumbai, New Delhi, GIFT City and Bengaluru.

The Trade Mission aims to deepen governmental and financial services cooperation while supporting India’s continued growth (Government of the Virgin Islands). For residents and firms in the Virgin Islands, the outreach signals a deliberate government effort to broaden market access, promote regulatory dialogue and create business development opportunities with one of the world’s fastest‑growing financial markets.

Strengthened ties with Indian regulators and industry bodies could lead to increased collaboration on compliance standards, cross‑border services and knowledge‑sharing that affect trust companies, fund managers, legal and corporate service providers based in the Territory.
