BVI Bolsters Economic Development with Expanded Msme
The British Virgin Islands has significantly increased its investment in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Grant Program, tripling the funding to $300,000. In a significant move to bolster the local economy and support the agricultural sector, the British Virgin Islands' Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs hosted its second annual Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Grant Distribution Ceremony on August 29.
The ceremony marked a tripling of the program's funding from $100,000 the previous year to $300,000, signaling the government's increased commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and economic development within the territory. The event, which took place at the BVI International Arbitration Centre, featured addresses by key figures including Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development Lorna Smith, OBE, and Deputy Director of Trade Lincoln Bobb.
A highlight of the event was a testimonial from Sandy Boyce of Speech Therapy Services of the Virgin Islands, a past recipient whose business expansion exemplifies the grant program's potential impact on local enterprises. Junior Minister Smith attributed the funding increase to the support of Premier and Minister of Finance Natalio D.
Wheatley, emphasizing the administration's focus on agriculture and food security as pivotal elements of the territory's economic strategy. The move aligns with the BVI's long-term vision of self-sustainability and resilience in the face of global and local challenges.
