BVI-Dominican Republic Trade Mission Results in Halved
A successful trade mission to the Dominican Republic, led by Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley, has resulted in a significant decrease in egg prices in the British Virgin Islands. Road Town Wholesale has introduced a new line of eggs, reducing costs for consumers and enhancing intra-Caribbean trade.
Residents of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) have a reason to celebrate as a recent trade mission to the Dominican Republic has led to a significant decrease in the price of eggs, a staple in local diets. On Monday, September 8, 2025, Road Town Wholesale Trading Limited, in partnership with the Dominican Republic supplier, launched a new line of eggs, marking the first tangible success of the trade mission led by Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Hon Natalio D.
Neil Hayes, General Manager of Road Town Wholesale, announced the substantial price reduction at a press conference, stating that the price of eggs has been halved thanks to the new partnership. 'We're celebrating the fact that we've halved the price of eggs through some great supply work, finding some eggs from a new egg supplier in the Dominican Republic,' Hayes explained.
He expressed gratitude towards Premier Wheatley for his support in seeking new suppliers, highlighting the government's commitment to diversifying the Territory’s market options and reducing costs for consumers, especially in the aftermath of price hikes due to the Trump administration tariffs.
The new prices are exceptionally consumer-friendly, with a dozen eggs now available for $5 and a 30-pack for $11.99. Hayes also revealed that the 'Oh So Good' brand is a bespoke product for RiteWay and its sister company, Cost-U-Less, designed to save money for consumers by opting for private label partnerships with producers.
Premier Wheatley expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the importance of finding affordable, quality products for BVI residents and enhancing intra-Caribbean trade. 'It is a win-win,' Wheatley noted, pointing out the benefits of fresher, hormone-free eggs and the potential for further trade partnerships with other Caribbean and Latin American countries to ease consumer costs in the BVI.
This initiative is seen as just the beginning of a broader strategy to make essential goods more accessible and affordable for BVI residents, promising a future where the territory can leverage its relationships within the region for the benefit of its consumers and economy alike.
