BVI Drag Racers Win in Grenada
A motorsports contingent representing the British Virgin Islands captured a historic first-place finish at the King Ocean International Grenada Drags. Driven by Ian Galbreath and owned by Esau Rohan Andrews, the VI vehicle topped the competitive 13 Second Class among 250 regional participants. A delegation of motorsports enthusiasts representing the British Virgin Islands achieved a historic victory at the King Ocean International Grenada Drags, securing first place in the 13 Second Class division. The high-octane event, hosted by the Grenada Motor Club at the Pearls International Speedway in St.
Andrew, Grenada, brought together 250 registered cars and racing teams from across the wider Caribbean and the Americas. Competitors traveled from as far as the United States, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, and Barbados, making it the largest drag racing competition held in the Leeward and Windward Islands this year.
The winning BVI vehicle was driven by Ian Galbreath and owned by Esau Rohan Andrews, widely known as Black Lion. Facing stiff competition from a field of more than 16 cars registered within the 13 Second Class, the Virgin Islands crew delivered a standout performance to secure the top spot on the podium.
Turnbull highlighted the significance of the victory for the Territory, noting that the combined efforts of Speed Shop VI and the Hurricane Racing Crew yielded an unprecedented international motorsports trophy for the Virgin Islands at this scale of competition. He emphasized that the trip demonstrated the growing potential of motorsports to foster cultural exchange, regional networking, and sports tourism across the Eastern Caribbean.
The successful expedition was made possible through extensive community and corporate backing. King Ocean provided complimentary shipping services to transport the racing vehicles between the Virgin Islands and Grenada. The contingent was also flown to the event via local carrier Fly BVI, piloted by Virgin Gorda-raised aviator Jeremy Charles, marking his first return flight to his birthplace of Grenada in fifteen years.
