BVI Finishes 3-3 at Caribbean 7s

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) finished with a 3-3 record at the Caribbean Rugby 7s Championships held in Arima, Trinidad, from November 21 to 23, 2025, showing resilience after a difficult opening day. According to a report to Virgin Islands News Online by Team Manager Mark Jones, BVI lost both matches on day one—falling 12-5 to St.
Lucia and 33-7 to the Turks and Caicos Islands. "A disappointing opening to the tournament," Jones wrote, but he said the squad returned to bed early and was determined to change its fortunes on day two. BVI opened day two with a convincing 24-0 victory over St. Vincent, but their bid to reach the finals was halted by a 15-0 loss to Curacao, who went on to win the Tier 2 competition.
On the final day the team bounced back, defeating the Bahamas 17-7 thanks largely to a hat trick of tries from winger Jayden Williams, the squad's leading scorer. BVI closed the tournament with a repeat victory over St. Vincent, prevailing 28-14 in a match Jones described as one-sided.
The team was coached by James Morris, BVI RFU Rugby Development Officer and national team coach from Cardiff, Wales. Jones praised the players for representing the territory with pride but cautioned that there is "plenty of work to do" to close the gap with top regional sides in next year’s highly competitive field.
For BVI residents, the results underline both progress and the challenges facing rugby in the Territory. The team displayed attacking promise and depth—notably in Williams’ finishing and the clean defensive shutout against St. Vincent—but inconsistency against stronger opponents like Curacao and Turks and Caicos highlighted the need for continued investment in coaching, fitness, and competitive exposure.
