BVI Hosts Second David Abednego Cup
Thirty qualified archers from four territories will compete in Road Town this weekend for the Second Annual David Abednego Cup National Indoor Championship. Hosted by the VI Field Archery Federation, the two-day tournament will take place at the Multi-Purpose Complex on October 3 and 4. Admission is free to the general public.
The British Virgin Islands is set to welcome thirty top archers from across the Caribbean this weekend for the Second Annual David Abednego Cup National Indoor Championship. Organised by the VI Field Archery Federation (VIFAF), the two-day tournament will take place on October 3 and 4 at the Multi-Purpose Complex in Road Town.
The event brings together athletes representing the British Virgin Islands, the United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago. Competitors will span various age categories, ranging from young Cubs to seasoned Veterans, competing across multiple styles and divisions of indoor field archery.
This year marks the debut appearance of the United States Virgin Islands in the tournament, while teams from Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago return following their participation in the inaugural competition. To raise the standard of the event, VIFAF introduced a new qualification requirement for this edition.
Federation officials noted that this benchmark ensures a higher caliber of competition and produces a more competitive field across the board. Each qualified archer will shoot a total of 120 arrows over the course of the two days. The demanding format is designed to rigorously test accuracy, consistency, mental endurance, and performance under pressure.
The tournament is named in honour of David Abednego of Harbour Chambers, the event's title sponsor. VIFAF emphasised that corporate partnerships such as Abednego's are vital to the continuous growth of competitive archery in the territory. The federation views the annual championship as an essential platform to develop local athletes by offering regular exposure to regional competition.
Admission to the championship is free of charge. Action will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, and VIFAF encourages families, sports fans, and the wider community to attend and support the archers.
