More than 30 vendors, including local farmers, fishers, agro-processors, schools, and food artisans, are set to showcase their products at the World Food Day Market and Food Fair at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town. Organized by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, the event opens with an official ceremony at 10:00 a.m. as the Virgin Islands joins regional and global communities in observing World Food Day.

This year's observance is centered around the theme, "Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow," focusing on modernizing local production and building long-term food sustainability. Director of Agriculture and Fisheries Theodore E. James stated that preparations are complete and encouraged the community to turn out in large numbers to support homegrown enterprise.

He emphasized that genuine food security begins with local producers who work the Territory's land and sea. James noted that transforming raw crops and fresh catch into value-added goods ensures that a greater portion of household food spending remains within the local economy. He highlighted that every purchase made at the market represents a direct investment in the future of the Virgin Islands agricultural sector.

Event Coordinator Nichollicia Kitaman-Sampson explained that this year's theme is a call to action to adopt fresh techniques to produce, preserve, and distribute nutritious food. She underscored the importance of engaging young people in agriculture and fisheries and equipping them with agro-processing skills to build a resilient, self-sufficient territory.

Attendees will also be able to watch live demonstrations highlighting food innovation. Lavity Stoutt Community College Culinary and Hospitality Studies Department is scheduled to lead sessions on food preservation and transforming local fruits into new culinary products. Additional interactive demonstrations will be presented throughout the day by Green VI and Steakation Butchers.

Organizers encourage residents and visitors across the Territory to arrive early, support local producers, and experience the diversity of Virgin Islands agriculture and cuisine.
