BVI Launches Future Filmmakers Academy to Nurture
The British Virgin Islands Film Commission announced the Future Filmmakers Academy, a new initiative aimed at introducing children ages 7 to 12 to the world of filmmaking. Scheduled from 31st March to 4th April 2025, the program offers hands-on training in storytelling, directing, animation, and production with industry professionals.
In an exciting development for the British Virgin Islands' creative industry, the BVI Film Commission, under the auspices of the BVI Tourist Board, has unveiled the Future Filmmakers Academy. This innovative program is designed to ignite a passion for filmmaking among the territory's youth, offering a unique opportunity for young aspiring filmmakers, ages 7 to 12, to dive into the art and science of filmmaking.
Set to run from 31st March to 4th April 2025, this immersive academy aims to lay the foundation for the next generation of storytellers and film industry professionals in the BVI. The Future Filmmakers Academy is a week-long initiative that provides participants with hands-on training in essential aspects of filmmaking including storytelling, directing, animation, and production.
Guided by industry professionals Dame Peters and Naudia Turnbull, students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking and animation, respectively. The program is structured to offer an engaging and comprehensive curriculum that covers key filmmaking techniques and principles, from conceptualization to the final stages of production.
Sessions will be hosted at Seagrape Studios at Skelton Baylot in Fish Bay and at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in Paraquita Bay on select dates. These sessions are designed to provide students with practical experience, using essential filmmaking tools and software, and will run daily from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Registration for the Future Filmmakers Academy opened on 4th March, with spaces limited to ensure a high-quality, hands-on learning experience. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible to secure their spot in this groundbreaking program. According to BVI Film Commissioner Natalie Hodge, the academy represents a significant step towards nurturing the territory's creative talents and fostering a vibrant local film industry.
