BVI London Office Welcomes Diaspora Students
The BVI London Office hosted a lively gathering for British Virgin Islands citizens and students living in the UK, bringing community members together for food, games and one-on-one conversations with senior officials. Minister Sharie B. deCastro, HLSCC President Richard W. Georges and Financial Services Envoy Sherri L. Ortiz were among the guests who connected with students and residents, while the office reiterated its support for students and the wider diaspora.
The BVI London Office recently welcomed British Virgin Islands citizens and students living in the United Kingdom to a community gathering that combined information-sharing, networking and social time. The event—held at BVI House and organised by Director Tracy Bradshaw and her team—drew a mix of long-time London-based residents and newly arrived students eager to connect with their home territory.
Senior officials were on hand to meet attendees, including the Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Lavity Stoutt Community College Richard W. Georges, and Financial Services Envoy on special assignment to London Mrs. Each took time to greet guests, hold one-on-one conversations and check in with students about their studies and wellbeing. "The atmosphere was truly special—old friends reunited, new connections made, and everyone taking time to catch up, share stories, and enjoy the moment," the BVI London Office said on its Facebook page.
The presence of education and government leaders underscored the office’s role supporting young people overseas and maintaining ties between the Territory and its diaspora. Attendees enjoyed a broad selection of Caribbean cuisine supplied by Emerald Spice, including BBQ chicken, rice and peas, Johnny cakes, mac and cheese, fish in foil, hamburgers, plantains and corn.
Sweet treats such as coconut and pineapple tarts and red bellies, provided by Javan Hodge, complemented the spread. Family-friendly activities included face painting by Face Painting By Mariam, light games and a spirited domino challenge led by Hon. deCastro. For many students, events like this provide more than social relief; they are practical opportunities to access resources and support from the government and educational institutions.
The BVI London Office reiterated that it assists students with travel to official events and aims to create regular spaces for community members to reconnect and celebrate their heritage. "At the BVI London Office, we’re proud to support our students—including helping with travel to events—and even prouder to create spaces where our community can connect, unwind, and celebrate together," the office added, noting that Director Tracy Bradshaw and her team look forward to welcoming the community back to BVI House soon.
