The Territory of the Virgin Islands will celebrate 75 years since the restoration of its legislature with a series of events running from Sunday 2 November to Sunday 23 November under the theme: "Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future: The Virgin Islands 75 Year Journey Towards Self-Determination." The month-long programme is organised by the House of Assembly to mark a milestone in the Territory’s democratic and legislative development.
The official launch will be a National Church Service at St. George's Episcopal - Anglican Church on Main Street, Road Town, Tortola, on Sunday 2 November. Honourable Corine George-Massicote, Speaker of the House of Assembly, has invited residents to join the commemorations and to reflect on the Territory’s progress toward meaningful self-determination. “We will start the celebrations with a National Church Service at the St.
George's Episcopal - Anglican Church on Main Street, Road Town, Tortola on the 2nd of November,” the Speaker said. She highlighted a packed schedule of public-facing events designed to engage and educate the community about the work of the legislature. Planned activities include a Special Sitting of the House of Assembly, a Mock Sitting aimed at students and young people, and a Daily General Knowledge Quiz to test and build civic understanding.
A Recognition Ceremony will be held at the Eileene Parsons Auditorium on Friday 7 November at 7:00 p.m., honouring individuals and groups who have contributed to the Territory’s legislative and civic life. The month’s activities will conclude with a concert meant to bring the community together in celebration.
