πŸ’œ International Day of the Girl: A Spotlight on the BVI Young Women's Association πŸ’œ As we reflect on International Day of the Girl, we celebrate the girls and young women across the Virgin Islands who are finding their voice, pursuing their ambitions and helping to shape the future of our community.

Earlier this year, an International Women's Day event at Government House brought together young women studying at H. Lavity Stoutt Community as part of an initiative to encourage and support future female leaders in the Virgin Islands. Inspired by the discussions and connections formed that day, participants went on to establish the BVI Young Women's Association, creating a platform through which girls and young women can support, empower and learn from one another.

Be HER’, the Association provides a safe and supportive space for girls and young women through advocacy, wellness initiatives and meaningful guidance. Its work focuses on social and economic empowerment, gender-based violence, mental and physical health, and personal support and guidance.

Governor of the British Virgin Islands, Mr Daniel Pruce said: β€˜I was delighted to see participants at this year's International Women's Day event at Government House take the initiative to establish the BVI Young Women's Association. It is a powerful example of young women investing in and supporting one another. β€˜As we reflect on International Day of the Girl, the Association's work reminds us of the importance of creating opportunities for girls to develop their skills, find their voice and pursue their ambitions. β€˜I look forward to supporting the Association as it continues to grow and to seeing the positive impact it will have in empowering and inspiring future generations of women leaders in the Virgin Islands.’ The BVI Young Women's Association said: 'Our mission is to inspire, support and elevate young women across the Territory.

We are incredibly grateful to stand alongside such like-minded individuals and partners to build an association that creates a safe, more empowering future for the next generation.'
