The Virgin Islands is stepping up engagement with India on financial services, with plans underway for a Government-led Financial Services Trade Mission to India later in 2026. Officials held talks on Thursday, January 15, 2026, between His Excellency Shri Mayank Joshi, India’s High Commissioner to Jamaica and Non‑resident Consul for the Virgin Islands, and Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D.

Wheatley, together with Junior Minister for Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation, the Honourable Lorna G. Smith OBE, the government said in a press release. The release said the relationship between the Virgin Islands and India is being further reinforced ahead of the proposed trade mission, which Premier Wheatley will lead and which will also be supported by Honourable Smith.

Joshi presented his credentials to Premier Wheatley during a courtesy call on Friday, August 29, 2025. While specific dates and a final delegation list have not yet been announced, the trade mission is intended to promote the BVI’s financial services sector and deepen regulatory and commercial ties with Indian counterparts.

India’s large and fast‑growing economy, expanding fintech scene and growing demand for cross‑border financial services present potential opportunities for BVI service providers, regulators and those involved in digital financial transformation. For BVI residents, organisers say the mission could lead to a number of practical benefits if successful: attracting business and investment, opening channels for collaboration on fintech and digital solutions, and strengthening regulatory dialogue that can support legitimate international business.

The mission is also likely to involve meetings with Indian regulators, private financial institutions and technology firms, along with opportunities for BVI-based firms to pitch services and form partnerships. Government officials emphasised that ongoing engagement between authorities is central to building trust and ensuring the BVI’s regulatory standards and value proposition are clearly communicated to potential partners in India.

Further details, including dates, participating delegates and an itinerary, are expected to be announced as planning continues. Residents and local financial services firms are advised to watch for updates from the Government and the Ministry of Finance as arrangements are finalised.
