BVI Ports Announces Emancipation Hours
The BVI Ports Authority has released operating hours for the Emancipation Festival period, urging residents and visitors to plan ahead. While administrative offices will be closed on several days, vessel operations will continue on select dates and normal services resume Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVI Ports) has published its operating schedule for the 2026 Emancipation Festival and is encouraging the public to plan accordingly to avoid disruption to travel and cargo movements. On Saturday, August 1, 2026, administrative offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
On Sunday, August 2, administrative offices will be closed but vessel operations will continue. All offices and operations will be closed on Monday, August 3 (Festival Monday). Administrative offices will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 5, but vessel operations will continue on both days.
Normal operations across the BVI Ports Authority will resume on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The Authority emphasised that while office services will be limited during the holiday period, essential maritime services will be maintained to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of passengers and cargo.
Residents who rely on ferry services, inter-island freight, fuel deliveries, or commercial shipping should note the difference between administrative closures and vessel operations. Passenger sailings and cargo movements are expected to continue on the days listed, but on-site administrative support—for example for permits, payments, documentation or office-based enquiries—may be limited or unavailable.
Local businesses, tour operators and freight forwarders are advised to confirm schedules with their carriers and suppliers in advance, and to arrange any necessary clearances or paperwork ahead of the holiday.
