The British Virgin Islands reports its strongest first half of the year for company incorporations since 2021, with 14,977 new incorporations. The BVI Financial Services Commission in its latest quarterly statistical bulletin says the significance of the latest figures lies not only in the volume of new registrations, but in where growth is occurring.

The commission says sharp increases in limited partnerships and private investment funds point to greater demand for BVI structures used in private-market investment, while the expansion of the jurisdiction’s licensed virtual asset sector demonstrates its growing role in regulated digital finance.

Other key figures from the FSC’s quarterly statistical bulletin include limited partnership formations increased by 73% over the past year, rising from 103 to 178; private investment fund registrations almost doubled, increasing by 93% from 14 to 27; overall new fund registrations rose by 23%, from 60 to 74, with private investment funds accounting for 13 of the 14 additional registrations; the number of licensed VASPs increased from five to 27 in 12 months and more than 7,300 companies were incorporated, making it the strongest second quarter since 2022.

The commission says growth in limited partnerships and private investment funds reinforces the BVI’s established role in the global private capital market. It says increased activity across both areas points to sustained demand for BVI structures from private equity, venture capital and other investment managers seeking to pool and deploy capital internationally.

According to the FSC, this strength in private capital is complemented by the expansion of the BVI’s licensed virtual asset sector, highlighting the jurisdiction’s ability to apply its legal and regulatory expertise to emerging areas of global finance. CEO of BVI Finance Elise Donovan says international finance is changing and capital is increasingly being raised through private markets, while digital assets are transforming how ownership and value move across borders.

She says these results show that the BVI is responding to both developments. Donovan says the BVI is not moving away from its traditional strengths. It is using them as the foundation for a broader financial services offering capable of supporting how international businesses and investors operate today.”
