The British Virgin Islands financial services sector has posted its strongest first-half performance in company incorporations since 2021, according to data highlighted in BVI Finance's latest industry report. More than 7,300 companies were incorporated in the second quarter alone, marking the jurisdiction's strongest second quarter since 2022.

The figures, sourced from the BVI Financial Services Commission second-quarter report, demonstrate notable diversification across modern financial structures. Rather than relying solely on traditional corporate registrations, the Territory saw significant expansion in vehicles commonly used for private-market investment and digital finance.

Limited partnership formations rose sharply, increasing by 73 percent year-on-year from 103 to 178. Private investment fund registrations nearly doubled, surging 93 percent from 14 to 27, which accounted for almost all new growth in the overall fund sector. Overall new fund registrations rose by 23 percent, climbing from 60 to 74.

The jurisdiction also experienced rapid growth in regulated digital finance. The number of licensed Virtual Asset Service Providers grew from five to 27 over a 12-month span, reflecting strong international interest in the BVI's regulatory framework for digital assets. Elise Donovan, Chief Executive Officer of BVI Finance, noted that international finance is undergoing significant transformation, with capital increasingly moving through private markets and digital channels.

She explained that the latest figures demonstrate the Territory's ability to respond effectively to these global shifts. Donovan emphasized that the BVI is building upon its core strengths in legal certainty and professional expertise to support the evolving needs of global investors.

Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development, Honourable Lorna G. Smith, OBE, welcomed the figures, stating that the results reflect deliberate efforts to keep the BVI competitive in changing international markets. She reiterated the Government's commitment to collaborating closely with the FSC and private industry to foster responsible innovation while maintaining a robust, well-regulated financial centre.
