BVI to Implement Zero Customs Duty on
The Virgin Islands Cabinet has approved a groundbreaking measure to apply zero customs duty on renewable energy and energy-efficient products starting September 1, 2025. This initiative aims to support the Territory's goal of sourcing 60 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
In a significant move toward sustainable development, the Virgin Islands Cabinet, led by Minister for Communication and Works Kye M. Rymer, has announced the approval of zero customs duty on a range of renewable energy and energy-efficient products. This policy, set to take effect on September 1, 2025, and run until August 31, 2030, marks a pivotal step in the Territory's commitment to environmental sustainability and energy independence.
Minister Rymer highlighted the initiative as a cornerstone of the government's strategy to meet its ambitious target of generating 60 percent of the Territory's energy from renewable sources. Rymer reminisced about the duty-free concession on renewable energy items introduced in 2021, noting the strong public interest and success it garnered. The initiative also builds on the Solar Technology Energy Programme (STEP), which was launched with the aim of promoting the use of renewable energy across the Territory.
