Four young sailors representing the British Virgin Islands delivered strong performances over the weekend at the 2026 Fall Regatta, hosted by the St Thomas Yacht Club in the neighbouring US Virgin Islands. The young contingent travelled to St Thomas to test their skills against regional competition across two racing categories.
Sean Stacey and Jervis Tucker-Davis represented the territory in the beginner Green Fleet, while Bobby Hensley and Piper Bailey took to the water in the more advanced Championship Fleet. Racing got underway on Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM under favourable conditions, with winds blowing in the low teens.
According to the Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC), competitors contended with shifting breezes and passing squalls throughout the weekend. The oscillating breeze required critical tactical decisions and occasional squall dodging, presenting a demanding tactical test for the young sailors as they navigated the racecourse.
For Stacey and Tucker-Davis, the weekend marked their first competitive regatta outside of the territory. Both sailors rose to the occasion, showcasing their growing talent on the regional stage. Sailing boat IVB 955, Stacey highlighted the weekend by winning one of his races and securing third place overall in the Green Fleet standings.
Tucker-Davis, sailing IVB 1111, demonstrated steady consistency across both days of racing, earning a top race finish of third to place fifth overall. The RBVIYC noted that both boys gave their all on the racecourse while thoroughly enjoying the experience. Meanwhile, in the Championship Fleet, Hensley made a commendable debut against experienced competitors in boat IVB 112.
The RBVIYC praised his transition, noting that moving from the Green Fleet to the Championship Fleet represented a significant step up. Hensley adjusted well to the increased intensity, recording three fourth-place finishes over the weekend to finish sixth overall. Teammate Piper Bailey, sailing IVB 2804, took on the challenge of the busy Championship race track and continued to build momentum throughout the regatta.
Bailey finished seventh overall with a top race result of fifth, with coaches noting steady improvements in her boat speed and start line positioning across the two days of competition. The BVI team expressed gratitude to the St Thomas Yacht Club for organizing the regatta, as well as the travelling parents who provided support.
The team also extended special thanks to Horizon Yacht Charters for providing the support vessel that accompanied the young sailors during their successful weekend on the water.
