The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has announced career opportunities for Plant Operators within its Generation Department, with vacancies open on both Tortola and Anegada. The corporation is seeking vibrant, skilled, and safety-focused individuals to assist in operating vital power generation machinery and ensuring a reliable electricity supply for residents and businesses across the Territory.
Successful candidates will play an essential hands-on role in daily power station operations on their respective islands. Core responsibilities include assisting with the switching of high- and low-voltage electrical circuits, synchronizing generators, and adjusting or taking loads off generators.
Operators will also be tasked with monitoring gauges on control panels and main electrical switchboards, keeping accurate log sheets, checking fluid levels, and refilling radiator water as needed. Routine maintenance and safety inspections form a major component of the role. Plant operators must frequently inspect engines and auxiliary equipment for water and oil leaks, faulty fan belts, battery issues, and oil pressure or temperature abnormalities.
Promptly recording and reporting any defects or generator downtime to the Shift Controller on duty is required to maintain overall plant reliability and ensure standby engines are prepared in the event of an outage. In addition to routine monitoring, operators are responsible for safely transferring fuel from storage tanks to day tanks, cleaning oil spills beneath engines to eliminate fire hazards, assisting technical teams during power restoration efforts, and alerting supervisors if conditions prevent adequate electricity generation.
To qualify, applicants must hold a minimum of a high school diploma alongside two to three years of working experience. While formal technical qualifications are considered an asset, BVIEC emphasizes the need for strong organizational and multitasking abilities, clear communication skills, proficiency with basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office, and an unwavering commitment to operational safety and teamwork.
Remuneration will be commensurate with the selected candidates' qualifications and experience.
