Bvipa Launches 35th Anniversary Open Houses
The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority is holding a series of community Open House events across the territory as part of its 35th anniversary, starting in Virgin Gorda and continuing to Jost Van Dyke and Anegada in February and March. The sessions will outline BVIPA operations, share port development plans, and give residents, stakeholders and port users a chance to ask questions and offer feedback.
The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) is marking its 35th anniversary with a territory-wide series of community Open House events designed to bring residents closer to port operations and upcoming development plans. BVIPA said the series will begin in Virgin Gorda, followed by sessions in Jost Van Dyke and Anegada in February and March.

According to the Authority’s managing director, the Open Houses are intended to strengthen community engagement and increase public awareness about how ports operate, how development projects are planned and the ways in which port improvements may affect daily life and economic activity across the islands.
For many BVI residents, ports are essential infrastructure that support inter-island transport, tourism, trade and local livelihoods. BVIPA has said the Open Houses will create a direct forum where ferry operators, boat owners, fishermen, tourism businesses, suppliers, and ordinary residents can raise concerns, ask questions and hear explanations about scheduling, safety, cargo handling and future upgrades.
While BVIPA has not published a full agenda for each session, the Authority expects to outline recent and planned initiatives, including proposals to improve resilience, enhance passenger and freight services, and address safety and operational efficiencies. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with BVIPA staff and management, and to submit comments for consideration as projects move forward.
Community members who cannot attend in person are advised to follow BVIPA online for summaries and materials that will be shared after each meeting. The Authority also welcomes written submissions from stakeholders who wish to provide input in advance. The Open House series forms part of a broader 35th anniversary programme aimed at highlighting the ports’ role in the territory’s economy and everyday life.
