BVIPA Named Caribbean Cruise Port of Year
The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority has been awarded Caribbean Cruise Port of the Year at the Caribbean Shipping Association's 56th Annual General Meeting in Guyana. The prestigious honor recognizes the Territory's ongoing advancements in passenger experience, infrastructure, and maritime safety. This major achievement arrives as the Authority celebrates its 35th anniversary of service to the Virgin Islands.
The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) has secured major regional recognition after being named Caribbean Cruise Port of the Year at the Caribbean Shipping Association’s (CSA) 56th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition in Georgetown, Guyana. The award acknowledges outstanding performance and tangible progress in cruise port operations, evaluating key metrics including infrastructure modernization, operational efficiency, passenger experience, safety, security, and environmental sustainability.
A delegation representing the BVIPA attended the conference and awards ceremony, led by Board Chairperson Dion A. Vanterpool, Operations Manager Bryan Scatliffe, and Warehouse Officer Wilford Blyden. Stoutt emphasized that the recognition demonstrates the Authority’s ongoing advancement and its commitment to upholding high international standards.
The accolade holds special meaning as the BVIPA marks 35 years of service under the celebratory theme, "Our Journey. Transforming the Future Together!" Acting Managing Director Dean B. Fahie commended the entire team and maritime stakeholders for their collective efforts in achieving the honor.
Fahie stated that the prestigious award reflects the dedication of port employees, the strength of local partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, reinforcing the Authority's vision to modernize facilities and strengthen the Virgin Islands' position within the Caribbean maritime sector.
This cruise sector honor represents back-to-back annual victories for the BVIPA at the regional level, following its win of the CSA’s Ludlow Stewart Container Port of the Year Award in 2025. Together, these achievements place the Territory among the Caribbean's standout performers in both commercial cargo handling and passenger cruise services.
Named after the late Nathan Dundas, a prominent champion of Caribbean cruise tourism, the award honors ports that show a strong commitment to strengthening the regional cruise sector. For the Virgin Islands, the recognition further elevates the Territory's profile as a premier cruise destination while highlighting the critical role that efficient, modern port operations play in supporting tourism, trade, and the wider local economy.
