BVI's Delilah Pease Triumphs at Pan Am
Delilah Grace Pease, at just 11 years old, has made history by becoming the first British Virgin Islands athlete to win gold at the Pan Am Junior Open U13 Girls Squash Championship held in Guatemala City. Pease's remarkable journey saw her defeating top competitors from across the region without dropping a single game throughout the tournament.
In an outstanding showcase of talent and determination, young Delilah Grace Pease has brought immense pride to the British Virgin Islands by clinching the Girls Under-13 squash title at the prestigious 2025 Pan Am Junior Open. The event, which unfolded from August 28 to 31 at the Asociación Deportiva Nacional de Squash in Guatemala City, witnessed Pease outclassing competitors to secure her position at the pinnacle of the podium, a testament to her unparalleled skill and perseverance.
Pease's journey to the championship was filled with noteworthy achievements, facing off against formidable opponents from 17 participating countries across the region. According to National Coach Adam Murrils, as shared on the Tortola Sport Club's Facebook page, Pease's competitors hailed from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, El Salvador, Mexico, and the host country, Guatemala.
What made her victory even more impressive was the fact that she turned 11 just one day before the tournament's conclusion and didn't drop a single game throughout the competition. This victory not only secured her the gold medal but also marked her as the U13 Girls champion, a title that carries significant weight within the squash community.
This latest achievement adds to Pease's growing list of accolades in the sport. Prior to her triumph in Guatemala City, she had already made a name for herself within the Caribbean squash scene, securing back-to-back golds in the U13 division at the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships.
Furthermore, her victory in December 2024 at the Canadian Junior Open, where she became the first BVI player to win the Girls Under-11 category, was a groundbreaking moment for the territory's representation in international squash. The British Virgin Islands was also represented at the games by Jakob Noblett-Diaz, 13, in the U15 category, who unfortunately was injured playing for positions 13 to 16.
Despite this setback, Coach Murrils expressed optimism about Noblett-Diaz's potential and highlighted the camaraderie and friendship developed among Caribbean players at the event. Delilah Pease's success at the Pan Am Junior Open is being hailed as a milestone for the sport of squash in the Virgin Islands.
