Carrot Bay Crowned Family Feud Champions
Carrot Bay’s Senior Engagement Programme “Creme of the Crop” claimed first place in the Family Feud Seniors’ Edition, a signature event of the 37th Senior Citizens’ Month held at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC). The competition was marked by friendly rivalry, laughter and community camaraderie, with finalists from East End/Long Look and Cane Garden Bay taking part.
Carrot Bay’s Senior Engagement Programme “Creme of the Crop” took top honours in the Family Feud Seniors’ Edition held at the Eileene L. The event was one of the signature activities of the 37th Anniversary of Senior Citizens’ Month and brought laughter and community spirit to attendees, according to a Government of the Virgin Islands press release and coverage by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
In a closely contested final round, the Carrot Bay team defeated the East End/Long Look Senior Engagement Programme team “Rising Sun,” living up to their name as the “Creme of the Crop.” The Oasis Seniors Programme from Cane Garden Bay also participated, contributing energy and enthusiasm to the competition and helping to showcase the wit, vibrancy and social engagement of the Territory’s older residents.
VINO described the occasion as featuring “friendly competition, laughter and community camaraderie.” Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent Wheatley praised the participants, noting the ongoing contribution of seniors to community life. “Our seniors continue to inspire us through their wisdom, resilience and enthusiasm for life.
Events such as the Family Feud Seniors’ Edition not only provide opportunities for recreation and fellowship, but also reinforce the importance of healthy and active ageing. I congratulate all participating teams, especially the Carrot Bay Senior Engagement Programme ‘Creme of the Crop’ on their well-deserved victory,” he said, according to the Government press release.
Acting Chief Social Development Officer Shirma George also highlighted the event as evidence of the success of this year’s Senior Citizens’ Month celebrations. “The enthusiasm displayed by all participants demonstrates that our seniors remain active, engaged and deeply connected within their communities.
The Department of Social Development is pleased to continue providing opportunities that encourage wellness, social interaction and meaningful participation among our elderly population,” she said, as quoted in the government statement and noted by VINO. This year’s Senior Citizens’ Month carries the theme “Champion Your Health” and has included a broad programme of activities across the Virgin Islands: an Opening and Declaration Service, Intergenerational Days in East End/Long Look and Carrot Bay, the Virgin Gorda Seniors’ Luncheon, Jost Van Dyke’s Funtastic Friday, a BVI Historical Sites Tour, Seniors’ Sports Day, the Virgin Gorda Elderly Home Open House and the Anegada Seniors’ Luncheon and Social.
These events aim to promote wellness, social connection and active ageing among seniors throughout the Territory. Residents are reminded of upcoming activities that will round out the month: the Adina Donovan Home Open House on 27 May and the culminating Champion Your Health Parade and Wellness Fair on 29 May.
