Cibc Walk for the Cure Unites BVI
More than 200 participants took to the streets of Tortola for CIBC Caribbean's annual Walk for the Cure to support cancer patients. The event contributes toward a territory fundraising target of $75,000 for the BVI Cancer Society. Organizers celebrated the community's continued compassion, courage, and dedication to the cause.
Hundreds of Virgin Islands residents came together in a powerful display of solidarity and support for cancer fighters and survivors during the annual CIBC Caribbean Walk for the Cure. The event took place along a scenic seafront route, starting at the bank's Wickham's Cay branch and heading to the well in Sea Cow's Bay before returning.
According to organizers, 500 people registered their support for the initiative, with over 200 participants of all ages actively walking the route wearing signature pink shirts. Fahie praised the collective effort of the community, noting that public involvement remains vital to helping those affected by the disease across the territory.
She expressed deep appreciation for the spirit of togetherness, emphasizing that every donation, step, and show of support helps ensure that no one in the Virgin Islands has to navigate cancer alone. Devonish highlighted the growth of the initiative, noting that the walk has expanded exponentially since it first launched in 2012.
He stated that the turnout embodied this year's theme of Community, Commitment, and Courage, demonstrating the collective power of corporate partners and residents working hand in hand. Walk for the Cure stands as one of the largest regional cancer awareness and fundraising initiatives in the Caribbean.
Funds generated from this year's efforts are aimed at meeting the BVI's 2025 target of $75,000. All proceeds directly benefit the BVI Cancer Society to assist local patients with medical expenses, treatment access, and community education programs focused on early detection and prevention.
