Civil Registry Unveils Modern Vital Certificates
The Civil Registry and Passport Office has launched redesigned Birth and Death Certificates with enhanced security, improved readability and updated visual elements. Residents are encouraged to obtain the new documents; marriage, adoption and stillbirth certificates will follow in the near future.
The Civil Registry and Passport Office has launched newly designed Birth and Death Certificates, marking an upgrade in the security and presentation of vital records across the Virgin Islands. According to a government statement, the redesigned certificates introduce enhanced visual and security features to meet contemporary standards while retaining the historical identity and legacy of the Territory.
The improvements aim to make documents harder to forge and easier for officials and service providers to verify. Tashi O'Flaherty-Maduro said the changes are part of the office's ongoing efforts to modernise operations. "The introduction of these modern certificates represents a clear advancement in how we manage and protect vital records.
By integrating enhanced security features with a more accessible and modern design, we are ensuring that these documents remain both secure and user-friendly for all residents," she said. Officials say the new certificates feature refined layouts for improved readability and advanced security elements to help prevent fraud and unauthorised reproduction.
For residents, updated certificates can support a range of everyday needs that rely on certified proof of identity and civil status, including passport applications, school registration, estate administration, and access to government or private services. The Civil Registry and Passport Office is encouraging residents to obtain the new Birth and Death Certificates by visiting its offices or contacting the department directly for information on application procedures and any fees.
