Consolidated Index Updated to 1 January 2026
The Government of the Virgin Islands has published an updated Consolidated Index of Virgin Islands Legislation that includes all laws in force as of 1 January 2026. The free, downloadable Index — part of the Law Revision and Accessibility of Laws project — is available at laws.gov.vg and aims to help legal practitioners, public officers, researchers, businesses and residents quickly locate current and amended legislation.
The Government of the Virgin Islands has published an updated Consolidated Index of Virgin Islands Legislation that includes all legislation in force as of 1 January 2026, the Government advised in its public notice. Smith said the release supports the Law Revision and Accessibility of Laws project’s objective of producing an annual Consolidated Index for the Virgin Islands. "The release of the updated Index is in keeping with the Law Revision and Accessibility of Laws project’s goal of publishing a Consolidated Index for the Virgin Islands on an annual basis, ensuring that legal practitioners, public officers, researchers, and members of the public have access to accurate and current legislative information," she said (BVI Government).
What’s new: the Index has been updated to include all instruments in force as at 1 January 2026, reflecting every legislative change made since the previous publication on 1 January 2025. The Government emphasised that the revised Index enables users to quickly locate current and amended laws and that it has been reorganised to improve usability (source: BVI Government).
The Consolidated Index is arranged alphabetically and lists Acts together with their related subsidiary legislation — including regulations, rules and orders — so users can identify which instruments are in force and where to find them on the legislation portal. The Index is designed as a practical guide that saves time and improves efficiency for legal research, policy development and administrative work across government and the private sector (BVI Government).
For residents and businesses, the updated Index is a valuable tool for checking the current legal framework governing areas such as company law, land and property, employment, health and safety, and environmental regulation. The Government notes that the Index does not replace the full text of statutes or subsidiary instruments, but helps users identify which instruments apply and where to access them online (BVI Government).
The updated Consolidated Index is available free of charge for download and printing from the Virgin Islands legislation website at laws.gov.vg. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the legislation website to access the Index and other legislative resources, the Government said (BVI Government).
