Crown Lands Board Seeks JVD Representative
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change is inviting applications for a Jost Van Dyke representative on the Crown Lands Advisory Board. Established under the Crown Lands Management Act, 2024, the board oversees the transparent and equitable management of public lands. Qualified Virgin Islanders and Belongers are encouraged to apply before the October 8 deadline.
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change has officially opened applications for a seat on the Crown Lands Advisory Board, seeking a qualified individual to represent the island of Jost Van Dyke. The board operates under the framework of the Crown Lands Management Act, 2024, which governs the fair, transparent, and sustainable administration of public lands across the British Virgin Islands.
The successful applicant will serve as an integral member of the advisory body, providing critical recommendations on the disposal and management of Crown lands. A key aspect of the role involves ensuring that policies and decisions account for the distinct cultural and historical heritage of Jost Van Dyke and other areas of the Territory.
Recommendations made by the board are reviewed in coordination with relevant Standing Committees to maintain accountability and strategic land stewardship. To be considered for the role, prospective candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and demonstrate a proven track record of sound, equitable decision-making.
Applicants must exhibit high levels of personal integrity, trustworthiness, strong judgment, and the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion. In accordance with statutory requirements, applicants must be Virgin Islanders or meet Belongership eligibility criteria as set out in Section 2(2)(f) or Section 2(2)(h) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007.
Board members serve an initial term of up to three years, with the possibility of reappointment for one additional three-year term upon expiration of the initial tenure. To ensure continuity and governance stability, appointments of non-government members are staggered so that no more than two representatives are reappointed in any single calendar year.
The position is compensated on a stipend basis. Interested individuals are invited to submit a formal cover letter detailing their interest alongside an updated curriculum vitae or résumé to Permanent Secretary Dr. Ronald Smith-Berkeley at the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change via email at menrcc@gov.vg.
Applications must be received by October 8. The ministry has noted that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
