A ridge of high pressure alongside lingering Saharan dust continues to shape weather patterns across the British Virgin Islands, keeping rainfall generally limited and skies hazy. According to the latest morning forecast issued by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), based on assessments from forecasters Patrice Edwards and Bianca Bess of the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services, dry and stable air will maintain mostly settled conditions over the territory throughout the day and into tonight.
Today, residents can expect partly cloudy and hazy skies with a 40 percent, or moderate, chance of a brief passing shower. Winds are projected to blow from the east at speeds ranging between 7 and 17 miles per hour (17 to 28 kilometres per hour). The sun is scheduled to set this evening at 6:37 p.m.
Heading into tonight, weather conditions will remain largely steady. Skies will stay partly cloudy with shower chances holding at 40 percent for brief, localized rain. Winds are expected to shift slightly, becoming east-northeasterly at 7 to 17 miles per hour overnight, while sunrise tomorrow morning is set for 6:03 a.m.
Marine conditions across the territory continue to be moderate. Open water seas are forecast to remain between 3 and 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 metres). Although no marine advisories or severe warnings have been issued, small craft operators, fishers, and coastal swimmers are encouraged to maintain standard precautions while navigating territorial waters.
Public health officials and disaster management personnel also continue to monitor the Saharan dust layer, which is maintaining reduced air quality across the islands. Individuals with respiratory conditions, asthma, or heightened sensitivities to airborne dust are advised to limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities while hazy conditions persist.
