Debra D. Hodge Appointed Director of Youth
Debra D. Hodge has been appointed Director of Youth Affairs and Sports for the Virgin Islands, effective 2 February 2026, the Government of the Virgin Islands announced. The government release says Ms. Hodge will lead the development and implementation of national policies, programmes and day-to-day operations for youth empowerment and sports, with a focus on modernising departmental functions and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders.
Hodge has been appointed Director of Youth Affairs and Sports for the Virgin Islands, effective 2 February 2026, the Government of the Virgin Islands announced in a press release from the Office of the Deputy Governor. Hodge joins the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports with more than three decades of experience in youth development, most recently serving as Director of Student Life at H.
The Government said her long career in student affairs and campus leadership gives her a strong foundation for the new role. According to the government announcement, Ms. Hodge’s appointment will place her at the forefront of strategic leadership for the development and implementation of national policies, programmes and initiatives for youth empowerment and sports development across the Territory.
In the post she will lead the Department’s day-to-day operations while focusing on modernising its functions to align with international best practices and on strengthening partnerships with schools, community organisations, sports clubs and regional and international stakeholders.
Permanent Secretary (Ag.) in the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Hodge’s record, saying the official Government release that "Ms. Debra Hodge’s thirty-plus years of service at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College reflect a lifetime dedication to our youth. Her leadership in student affairs demonstrated a consistent ability to translate care and guidance into tangible outcomes.
In her new role as Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, she is uniquely positioned to expand that impact, guiding initiatives that uplift the territory’s youth and foster a vibrant, active community for all." The comment was included in the Government's announcement. Hodge said she was "deeply honored to serve as the Director of Youth Affairs and Sports," and linked her priorities to the Government’s Education Month theme, "Strong Foundations for a Future-Focused Generation." She said she is committed to ensuring young people have the resources and athletic platforms necessary to thrive and that her vision is to "cultivate an environment where every young Virgin Islander feels empowered to lead, and every athlete has the support to excel." These remarks were reported in the Government release.
Hodge’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Counseling Psychology (minor in Behavioral Sciences) from Columbia Union College and a Master of Business Administration in Leadership and Development from the University of the People. She also holds an Executive Diploma in Management from the Chartered Management Institute and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from Manchester Metropolitan University.
The Government reiterated its commitment to advancing youth and sport development in the Territory. The announcement, released by the Office of the Deputy Governor on behalf of the Government of the Virgin Islands, signals a continuing focus on youth development, skills-building and expanding opportunities for participation in sport as a vehicle for health, social cohesion and talent development.
