Deputy Governor Releases Year in Office Reports
Deputy Governor David D. Archer, Jr. announced in a video address on 19 February that all of his Year in Office reports since taking office in March 2018 have been released and posted on the Government of the Virgin Islands website (gov.vg). The reports, which are produced annually and detail his duties separate from the wider Office of the Deputy Governor, are intended to strengthen transparency and accountability; Mr. Archer has invited the public to review the documents and submit any questions. The release covers years during which the Territory worked on storm recovery and faced the public-health and economic challenges of COVID-19, and the Office has provided contact details for enquiries and media requests.
Archer, Jr. announced the release of all his Year in Office reports since he took office in March 2018 in a video address issued on 19 February, the Government of the Virgin Islands said in its release. Archer is required to produce annual Year in Office reports. The documents available now on the official government website provide a year-by-year record of the Deputy Governor’s activities that are separate from the wider Office of the Deputy Governor, its units and programmes.
In his video address (reported by the BVI Government), Mr. Archer said the releases are meant to strengthen the culture of transparency and accountability across the Public Service and welcomed public scrutiny. He said: “Serving as Deputy Governor is a great responsibility, and it is important that this responsibility is delivered with a tangible commitment to transparency and accountability.
I am proud to release all completed reports since the start of my tenure. These reports provide detailed insight into my work, allowing the public to see and understand every detail and every moment in the execution of my duties.” The period covered by the reports includes years when the Territory continued recovery and redevelopment efforts following major storms and navigated the public-health and economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For residents, the documents give a clearer view of the Deputy Governor’s role in policy coordination, public-service leadership and intergovernmental engagement during those critical periods. All reports can be viewed or downloaded at gov.vg/services/deputy-governors-year-office-report, the Government statement says.
