Didacus Jules Reappointed OECS Director General
Didacus Jules has been reappointed to a fourth term as Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), a decision taken at the Authority's 78th meeting. Heads of Government praised his leadership on priorities such as food sovereignty, digital transformation, health and education, noting his role in strengthening regional capacity amid a complex geopolitical environment.
Didacus Jules has been reappointed to a fourth term as Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the regional body announced following its 78th Meeting of the OECS Authority. According to an OECS press release, Heads of Government commended Jules for his service and contributions to regional development, cooperation and institutional strengthening since he first took up the post in 2014.
The reappointment reflects what the OECS described as continued confidence in his leadership at a time when the region faces an increasingly complex geopolitical environment. Jules has been credited with advancing a number of regional priorities during his tenure, including initiatives on food sovereignty, digital transformation, healthier communities and educational reform.
Officials also highlighted his role in strengthening the OECS’s capacity to respond to emerging challenges confronting member states, from natural disasters to shifting economic and security dynamics. Former OECS Authority chairman and Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr.
Godwin Friday, congratulated Jules and praised his commitment to deeper regional integration and sustainable development. "The decision reflects the confidence of the Authority in your leadership and acknowledges your valuable contribution to the advancement of the OECS integration agenda and the continued strengthening of the Organisation," Friday said in remarks carried in the release. "On behalf of the OECS Authority, I extend sincere congratulations on your reappointment and look forward to your continued service and dedication to the people and Governments of the OECS Member States." The OECS Commission also issued congratulations, saying it looked forward to continued collaboration in delivering meaningful benefits to citizens across member states.
The organisation emphasized that experienced leadership remains important as it seeks to advance its vision of a more integrated, resilient and prosperous Eastern Caribbean. While the British Virgin Islands is not a full member of the OECS, BVI residents and policymakers have reason to take interest.
Regional initiatives on food security, public health, disaster response and digital infrastructure influence trade flows, emergency cooperation and technical partnerships across the Eastern Caribbean. Continued stability and coordination within the OECS can support faster mutual aid during storms, improved public-health collaboration and shared progress on climate resilience—areas of direct relevance to the BVI.
Jules’s reappointment signals continuity for the OECS at a moment when coordination across small island states is critical to address economic recovery, climate risk and shifting global pressures. The OECS said it expects Jules to continue guiding the organisation’s integration and development agenda through his next term.
