Dolly Remnants Bring Rain to BVI
The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are approaching the British Virgin Islands, bringing increased showers, gusty winds, and hazardous marine conditions over the next 24 hours. Residents and small craft operators are urged to exercise caution and monitor weather updates as unsettled weather moves through the territory.
Residents across the British Virgin Islands are being advised to prepare for unsettled weather as the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly approach the territory. The Department of Disaster Management reported that the weather system is expected to increase cloudiness and shower activity across the islands through Sunday evening.
Forecasts indicate partly cloudy skies with increasing cloud cover and a 50 percent chance of overnight showers on Saturday night. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible, with overnight temperatures hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius). Winds are forecast to blow from the northeast at 15 to 20 miles per hour, with potential gusts reaching up to 35 miles per hour.
Conditions heading into Sunday are expected to remain cloudy with frequent periods of showers. Forecasters have placed the chance of precipitation at 60 percent, alongside a 30 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms, particularly during the morning hours. Marine conditions are also expected to deteriorate as the system passes.
Waves are forecast to reach heights between five and nine feet, with the roughest conditions expected in the waters north and east of Anegada and Virgin Gorda. Small craft operators are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution when navigating exposed coastal areas and open waters.
In addition to marine advisories, disaster management officials recommend that residents secure outdoor furniture, signs, potted plants, and other loose items that could become hazards during strong wind gusts. During periods of thunderstorm activity, the public is advised to avoid swimming, boating, and remaining in open outdoor spaces.
