Dolly Remnants Bring Rough Seas And Rain
Moisture from the remnants of Dolly is bringing heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to the Virgin Islands through Monday. Hazardous marine conditions have prompted a small craft advisory, with swells reaching up to nine feet around Anegada and Virgin Gorda.
Increased moisture associated with the remnants of Dolly is bringing unsettled weather across the British Virgin Islands, with elevated chances of rainfall and gusty conditions expected to persist through Monday. According to weather updates shared by the Department of Disaster Management, residents should prepare for mostly cloudy skies with a 70 percent chance of showers and a 30 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms throughout the day and evening.
Some showers may become heavy at times, and officials noted that a flood advisory may become necessary if downpours persist. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach around 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Marine conditions remain particularly dangerous, especially across the northern and eastern waters of Anegada and Virgin Gorda.
A small craft advisory is currently in effect as open-water swells build between six and nine feet (1.8 to 2.7 meters). Small vessel operators are strongly advised to remain in port until sea conditions subside. A high wind alert is also in place across the Territory. Sustained winds are forecast to blow between 16 and 20 mph (26 to 32 km/h), shifting from the northeast to the south-southeast, with gusts potentially exceeding 35 mph (56 km/h).
Residents are urged to take necessary safety precautions, including securing outdoor furniture, garbage bins, signage, and other loose items that could be damaged or blown away by strong gusts. The public is also advised to seek shelter indoors at the sound of thunder and to avoid beaches, exposed outdoor locations, and open waters until stormy conditions pass.
