Dr Natasha Frett Joins Health Council
The Ministry of Health and Social Development has appointed Dr Natasha Frett as a Member (Medical Practitioner) of the Allied Health Professionals Council for a three-year term from 15 September 2025 to 14 September 2028. Dr Frett, a paediatrician and Director of Primary Health Care at the BVI Health Services Authority, brings extensive clinical and community experience in child health and primary care to the council.
The Government of the Virgin Islands has appointed Dr Natasha Frett to serve as a Member (Medical Practitioner) on the Allied Health Professionals Council for the period 15 September 2025 to 14 September 2028, the Ministry of Health and Social Development announced in a press release.
Dr Frett is a respected paediatrician and healthcare leader with more than a decade of service in the Virgin Islands. She currently serves as Director of Primary Health Care at the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) while continuing her clinical practice in paediatrics. Her appointment to the council is intended to strengthen the link between clinical care, primary health services and regulation of allied health professionals across the Territory.
Her background includes work as a Medical Officer with the Child Abuse Investigative Team, where she supported child protection initiatives, and founding Tiny Champs, a support organisation for parents whose infants were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dr Frett has also worked as a Medical Consultant at Eureka Medical and has served as a Medical Specialist with the BVIHSA since 2014.
Dr Frett’s academic qualifications include a Doctorate of Medicine in Paediatrics and an MBBS from The University of the West Indies, Mona; a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Barry University; and an Associate of Science in Biology from H. Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Vincent O.
Wheatley, welcomed the appointment, saying, "Dr Frett has demonstrated outstanding commitment to child health, primary care and community wellness in the Virgin Islands. Her clinical expertise and leadership will be invaluable as the Allied Health Professionals Council continues to strengthen professional standards and improve the quality of care across the allied health sector." The Allied Health Professionals Council is responsible for regulating allied health practitioners and ensuring that professional standards, ethics and public protection remain central to healthcare delivery in the Territory. For residents, stronger regulation aims to improve the quality and consistency of services provided by allied health workers who support doctors, nurses and community clinics.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to improving the health and social well-being of people in the Virgin Islands and said appointments such as Dr Frett’s are part of ongoing efforts to bolster primary care, child health services and professional oversight across the health system.
