Motorists commuting between the West End and Road Town districts on Tortola are being advised to anticipate significant travel delays or seek alternative routes as concrete paving operations continue along the Cox Heath bypass road. The Ministry of Communications and Works issued a public advisory encouraging drivers to bypass the active construction area to prevent bottlenecks and minimize transit times.
Commuters traveling eastward from West End toward Road Town are being urged to travel via Carrot Bay or take the hillside route from Towers into Cox Heath. Likewise, drivers making the reverse journey from Road Town toward West End are advised to divert along the coastal corridor through Carrot Bay to steer clear of potential congestion.
According to infrastructure officials, the Cox Heath bypass is currently restricted to a single lane operating strictly as a one-way road heading eastbound. Adverse weather conditions have further complicated site conditions, rendering the roadway difficult to navigate and severely limiting the volume of vehicles permitted to pass through at any given time.
Drivers who have no choice but to traverse the area are being urged to exercise heightened caution, expect extended wait times, and strictly follow the directions provided by traffic wardens and site personnel managing vehicle flow. The ongoing concrete paving work on this current segment is projected to be completed by Monday, September 7.
Following the conclusion of this initial phase, construction teams and heavy equipment are scheduled to shift operations to another section of the roadway to continue the upgrade process.
