Early Showers Expected Across the Virgin Islands
Residual moisture from a weak trough is bringing a chance of morning showers across the British Virgin Islands before clearer skies develop later in the day. Temperatures are expected to peak near 89 degrees Fahrenheit, with moderate seas reaching up to five feet.
Residents across the British Virgin Islands should prepare for intermittent morning showers today as lingering moisture from a weak passing trough affects the territory. According to the Department of Disaster Management, the unsettled conditions are expected to give way to mostly sunny skies as the day progresses.
Forecasters anticipate partly cloudy skies through the morning hours, with a 40 percent probability of scattered showers. The weather is projected to improve significantly by the afternoon, bringing brighter conditions across Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke. Daytime temperatures will reach highs around 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius), accompanied by east-southeasterly winds blowing between 13 and 18 mph.
Marine conditions remain moderate across territorial waters, with wave heights running between three and five feet. Small craft operators and recreational boaters are advised to exercise caution, particularly in open waters and exposed channels where chop may create choppy conditions.
Motorists should also take extra care during early commutes, as brief downpours can lead to slick road surfaces, reduced visibility, and localized pooling of water on hillside routes. Pedestrians and commuters are encouraged to keep light rain gear on hand throughout the early part of the day.
Heading into the evening, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy with a reduced 30 percent chance of passing showers. Sunset is scheduled for 6:06 p.m. local time, leading into a generally mild overnight period across the islands.
