Education Month 2026 Launched During Meet the
The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports officially launched Education Month 2026 on Monday, 2 March during a Meet the Media press conference, outlining a month-long calendar of student, educator and community activities across the British Virgin Islands. The launch featured a panel with Minister Sharie B. de Castro, Chief Education Officer Orlandette Crabbe and HLSCC President Dr. Richard Georges, who highlighted the Ministry's priorities, the college's expanding role, and plans to share detailed school-by-school schedules throughout March (BVI Government).
The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports officially launched Education Month 2026 on Monday, 2 March during a Meet the Media press conference, setting the tone for a full month of activities focused on strengthening the education system and advancing national development through learning, the BVI Government said.
A panel at the press conference comprised Honourable Sharie B. de Castro, Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports; Chief Education Officer Orlandette Crabbe; and Dr. The panel provided an overview of the Ministry’s priorities, the role of key institutions within the education system, and the activities planned for Education Month (BVI Government).
In opening remarks, Minister de Castro reaffirmed the Government’s longstanding position that education is central to the Territory’s future. She said, "Education is not simply a sector of national development. Education is the foundation of national development. It is the cornerstone upon which every other pillar stands." The Minister emphasised the Ministry's focus on infrastructure, resources and professional development and noted that recent investments were made "deliberately, strategically, and unapologetically," the Government reported.
During a question-and-answer segment, the panel addressed the direction of the education system, workforce readiness and institutional capacity. Discussion highlighted HLSCC’s growing role within the national framework. Georges pointed to strengthened accreditation, expanding academic pathways and ongoing institutional development that position the College as a key contributor to national development and social mobility for BVI students, according to his remarks at the press conference.
Chief Education Officer Orlandette Crabbe outlined the activities planned across the Territory for March. Schools will take part in student-focused events such as Early Childhood Book Parades, Pre-Primary Games, Inter-Primary Sports Events, the National Science and Innovation Fair, and student-led open houses.
Educator-focused initiatives include professional development sessions and leadership conferences, while community engagement will feature Teach for a Day, Commonwealth Day observances, Rep Your College Friday and parent engagement initiatives (Ministry of Education). Education Month 2026 will run from 1–31 March under the theme "Strong Foundation for a Future-Focused Generation."
