In a significant development for consumers in the British Virgin Islands, RiteWay Supermarkets have unveiled their new 'Oh So Good' cage-free eggs, slashing egg prices by half. This announcement was made during a press conference attended by Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley, alongside RiteWay's General Manager Neil Hayes and Supply Manager Neil Thomas, bringing much-needed relief to residents who have faced soaring egg prices over the last year and a half.

According to Neil Hayes, the price reduction was made possible through a new supply deal with egg producers in the Dominican Republic. This partnership is not only advantageous in terms of cost but also aligns with RiteWay's strategy of moving towards private-label products under the 'Oh So Good' brand, ensuring consumers receive better value for their money.

A dozen eggs now costs $5, with a 30-pack priced at $11.99. Premier Wheatley hailed the initiative as a 'win-win' situation, emphasizing the affordability, freshness, and hormone-free quality of the eggs. He also pointed out the benefit of increased intra-Caribbean trade between the BVI and the Dominican Republic, underlining the broader economic and health implications of the move.

This price reduction is part of a broader effort by the government and local businesses to alleviate the financial burden on consumers. Earlier this year, a government-led trade mission to the Dominican Republic aimed to find solutions to lower the cost of food imports, highlighting the administration's proactive approach to tackling the issue of high living costs in the territory.

The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing relief and satisfaction at being able to afford eggs again. RiteWay assured that it would continue to offer a variety of egg products, including local and organic options, catering to the diverse preferences of its customers.

The introduction of 'Oh So Good' eggs is expected to lead to an increase in consumption, reversing the trend of decreased egg purchases due to previously high prices. This initiative not only demonstrates RiteWay's commitment to providing value to its customers but also reflects the potential for regional partnerships to address critical issues like food affordability in the Caribbean.
