Elections Office Urges Eligible Voters To Register
The Office of the Supervisor of Elections is urging eligible residents to register to vote or update their details before the August 28, 2026 deadline for the preliminary voters list. Applicants must be Belongers aged 18 or older residing in the Virgin Islands and provide qualifying identification. Registered voters who have recently moved between electoral districts are also reminded to submit transfer applications.
The Office of the Supervisor of Elections has issued a call for all eligible Virgin Islanders to register to vote or update their residency details ahead of the compilation of the 2026 preliminary voters list. Officials have established Friday, August 28, 2026, as the official deadline for registration.
To qualify for voter registration, an applicant must be at least 18 years of age, domiciled in the Virgin Islands, and hold Belonger status pursuant to section 2(2) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007. When submitting an application, individuals must present valid proof of their qualification.
Acceptable documentation includes a Virgin Islands passport with an embossed seal, a Belonger Card, or a Belonger Certificate. A Naturalisation Certificate can also be used, provided it is dated prior to June 15, 2007. The Elections Office also reminded residents who have relocated within the territory of their obligation to update their voter records.
Under section 17(1) of the Elections Act, Revised Laws of the Virgin Islands, 2013, any registered voter who moves from one local electoral district or polling division to another may have their name transferred to their new district by submitting Form No. 9. To satisfy the Supervisor of Elections with proof of residence in the new area, applicants must provide supporting documentation.
Accepted records include utility bills for electricity, water, cable, or telephone services, a formal lease agreement, a rent receipt, or a notarised document confirming the new physical address. Registration and transfer forms are widely accessible across the territory to ensure convenience for all residents.
Physical forms can be obtained at the Office of the Supervisor of Elections in Road Town, the Road Town Post Office, the District Offices on Virgin Gorda and Anegada, and the Government Office on Jost Van Dyke. Digital copies can also be accessed online through the official government portal.
