Elevator Hill Construction Leads to Temporary Water

Residents of Sea Cows Bay, Havers, and Pockwood Pond in District 3 are being advised to brace for a temporary disruption in their water supply this week. This interruption, lasting from today, September 9, to September 11, 2025, is the result of crucial construction activities on Elevator Hill, where a 50-foot retaining wall is being erected to combat the recurrent issue of flooding and erosion in the area.
The Water and Sewage Department (W&SD), in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Works, is spearheading this essential project. Davis, the Acting Director of W&SD, shared insights into the project's significance and its impact on the community through a Facebook post on Monday.
According to Davis, the construction of the retaining wall not only aims to protect properties from flooding but also to prevent the erosion of critical infrastructure. The ongoing work involves the relocation of an existing water main that serves a substantial portion of District 3, affecting the water supply to local residents.
The project kicked off with excavation work on September 9, with the footing for the new wall expected to be cast by Wednesday, September 10. Davis reassured the community that efforts are being made to minimize the disruption period and that water service will be restored promptly once the construction is completed and the area is backfilled.
