Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre Nears Completion
The Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre, a pioneering project for special education in the Virgin Islands, is now 81 percent complete, with its completion date extended to the end of the second quarter of 2025. The British Virgin Islands is on the verge of revolutionizing special education with the near completion of the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre. Currently, 81 percent complete, this landmark project underscores the government's commitment to inclusive education, ensuring that every child, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities, has the opportunity to thrive in an environment tailored to their needs.
During a recent site visit on March 29, Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Honourable Sharie de Castro, emphasized the project's importance, stating that the centre is more than a building; it's a testament to the territory's dedication to its exceptional students. The visit, facilitated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA), Mr.
Anthony McMaster, showcased the progress of a facility that promises to significantly enhance the educational landscape for students with special needs in the BVI. The completion date for the project has been pushed to the end of the second quarter of 2025, a slight delay from the original March 2025 target.
This extension ensures that the centre meets the highest standards of accessibility and safety, crucial for its specialized purpose. Upon completion, the new learning centre will boast therapy rooms, four accessible classrooms with outdoor learning spaces, a media room, library, multi-purpose room, and other specialized amenities.
Designed to support around 30 students requiring specialist educational services, it aims to foster independence and dignity among its pupils. The initiative, recognized as the first of its kind in the region, has been met with widespread support across the community. The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, alongside the RDA and project partners, is dedicated to delivering a state-of-the-art facility.
The design, crafted by TigerQi Architecture, and the construction, undertaken by Autland Heavy Equipment Co. Limited, reflect a commitment to quality and innovation. As the project moves closer to completion, the RDA has expressed gratitude for the public's patience and continued support.
