The half-marathon covers 21 kilometres (13.1 miles) and is open to individuals as well as teams. Corporate teams and open teams of any size are welcome, offering workplaces, clubs and families the chance to compete together.
Organisers have long said the race is a staple on the BVI calendar, and this year’s 20th running lived up to that billing. The route left Road Town and followed the scenic south shore west toward West End, looping around Belmont and finishing on the beach at Smuggler’s Cove. Many runners kept with tradition and celebrated their finish with a dip in the sea — a sight organisers and spectators have come to expect.
Pre-race attention had focused on local favourite David Lim, who was tipped as a contender heading into the event. But the day produced a different outcome: experienced road runner Julius L. Farley surged past early leader Jermaine A. Ricketts, known as "JJ," to take the men’s title in 1:30:54, according to race coverage by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
Oliver Terry finished second in 1:34:22, with Ricketts holding on for third in 1:36:28. In a rare and memorable result in the women’s field, Katrina "Kat" Lindsay and her twin sister Gayle Lindsay crossed together to share the women’s crown with a matching time of 1:40:54. VINO noted that Kat’s win marks her seventh consecutive title and that this is the first tie — and the first twin-tie — in the event’s history.
Close to 100 participants turned out for the race, with 96 runners and walkers completing the 21-kilometre distance, VINO reported. Prizes were awarded to the top five men and top five women overall, and organisers also recognised the oldest and youngest participants as part of the community celebration.
Organisers urged participants to arrive early on race day for check-in and warm-ups and reminded everyone to follow marshals’ instructions. Residents should expect increased traffic around Road Town, Havers and the westbound corridor during the early morning hours on race day. Spectators were encouraged to cheer responsibly, respect local residents and road safety measures, and to leave finish areas and beaches as they found them.
