Five Eshs Students In Global Robotics Challenge
Five students from Elmore Stoutt High School have been selected to represent the Virgin Islands at the 2026 FIRST Global Challenge in Incheon. The Olympic-style robotics competition brings together youth from over 190 countries to tackle real-world environmental challenges using STEM.
Five talented students from Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) have been selected to proudly represent the Virgin Islands on the world stage at the upcoming 2026 FIRST Global Challenge. The national robotics delegation comprises Team Leader Christopher Robinson, Engineer Stephon Jainauth, Driver Nicholas Joseph, Spirit Ambassador Caleb Stoutt, and Programmer Ricardo Seebaran.
The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports officially introduced the team to the community, commending the contingent as a brilliant crew already setting a high standard of excellence for Virgin Islands youth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Scheduled to take place from October 7 to October 10, 2026, the FIRST Global Challenge is an Olympic-style international robotics tournament hosted in a different country each year.
This year, the prestigious gathering will be held in Incheon, widely recognized as a premier global hub for innovation and technological development. Under the 2026 competition theme, 'Igniting Innovation', the Virgin Islands squad will join high school teams from more than 190 nations to develop solutions for critical real-world environmental issues.
The 2026 challenge focuses specifically on tackling the rising threat of wildfires, requiring participants to harness creativity, engineering principles, and strategic gameplay to design robots capable of assisting with fire prevention, mitigation, and ecological recovery. Throughout the competition, the ESHS team will explore how emerging technologies can reduce fire hazards, safeguard vulnerable communities, and bolster environmental resilience in a rapidly changing climate.
The participation of Virgin Islands students in this premier global arena underscores the Territory's growing emphasis on STEM education. The initiative offers young innovators hands-on technical experience, teamwork, and cross-cultural collaboration while showcasing local talent on an international platform.
