The Environmental Health Division is reminding food handlers who have completed the required food safety training and successfully passed the accompanying quiz to collect or update their Food Handler Cards. Food handlers are encouraged to visit the Division's office, located on the ground floor of the Social Development Building, adjacent to the Red Cross Building, to complete the certification process.
Acting Chief Environmental Health Officer, Ms. Henrietta Alexander, emphasised that participation in food safety training alone does not satisfy the certification requirements. “Completing the training and passing the quiz are important steps, but the process is not complete until the Food Handler Card is obtained or updated.
We are therefore encouraging food handlers to ensure that their certification is properly documented and that they remain compliant with the Territory's food hygiene requirements,” Ms. Food Handler Cards are required for persons working in food business establishments throughout the Virgin Islands, in accordance with the Public Health (Food Hygiene) Regulations, 1972.
Alexander also reminded food business operators of their responsibility to ensure that employees have completed the required training, passed the accompanying quiz and obtained their Food Handler Cards. The Environmental Health Division continues to promote safe food handling practices and compliance with food hygiene standards to safeguard public health.
