Friends Host Back-to-School Community Fun Day
A trio of young local entrepreneurs known as The JAM hosted a Summer Fun Day and Back-to-School Giveaway at Queen Elizabeth II Park. The event provided free school supplies, traditional family games, and prizes to assist local families ahead of the new school term. The initiative highlights youth-led community support and collaboration in the Virgin Islands.
A group of three lifelong friends known as The JAM recently hosted a Summer Fun Day and Back-to-School Giveaway at Queen Elizabeth II Park, bringing families together for a day of community entertainment and academic preparation. The community event was curated to support local families ahead of the upcoming school year.
Students received free essential supplies, including school bags and books. Attendees also took part in several traditional recreational activities, such as Lime and Spoon races and Sack Races with cash prizes, alongside attractions like bouncy castles for younger children. The initiative was made possible through community collaboration and local sponsorships, including support from the People’s Leadership Movement (PLM), Rising Star, and We Clean Boats Services.
The organizing group, The JAM, comprises three young men—Jkwani, Ajani, and Mordecai—whose bond formed during their 11th-grade high school days. Over the years, their friendship has evolved into a creative partnership guided by a shared philosophy to move and grow together as a collective.
While working together on community initiatives, each member has pursued their own entrepreneurial path within the territory. Jkwani has established his presence in fashion and design through his clothing brand, Pluto. Ajani operates the apparel line Rising Star while also expanding into barbering.
Mordecai has ventured into the maritime support sector, managing a professional boat cleaning service alongside other business projects. The organizers noted that despite pursuing distinct commercial paths, their shared commitment to collaboration and mutual encouragement remains central to their vision.
By turning their long-standing friendship into community action, the trio aims to set a positive example for youth engagement and local entrepreneurship across the British Virgin Islands.
